Orange and Honey Pork Shoulder

Braised pork shoulder is one of the perfect party foods that can be made well in advance and is incredibly forgiving.


1 pork shoulder roast
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp chili flakes
1 tbsp salt
2 oranges, cut into chunks
1/4 cup honey
2 tbsp water


  1. Rub the pork shoulder all over with the paprika, chili flakes, and salt and let cure overnight
  2. Heat the oven to 300F
  3. Place the pork shoulder in a baking dish with 1 cup of water in the bottom
  4. Cover with foil and bake until the meat is fall apart tender, about 3 hours
  5. Meanwhile in a food processor blend the oranges and honey into a paste
  6. Spoon the orange honey glaze over the pork shoulder
  7. Turn the oven to broiler and place the pork shoulder under the broiler to burn the glaze
